Volunteer Opportunities

volunteers

Abbo has volunteer opportunities at our Lafayette farm (Thomas Open Space - 1640 W. Baseline Rd) and also our home farm (10145 Oxford Rd) throughout our 2008 growing season. As a team we will create excellent food, share good times and learn a few things on the climb to Solstice, and then back down again throughout Harvest. If you have consistent time to offer, we appreciate and encourage participation.

We have a volunteer orientation scheduled for Thursday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. at our Oxford Road farm. At the orientation, we will solidify your availability, give you a quick tour of our new home base and you will also need to sign a liability waiver. This year is a really big for us, one of those "all hands on deck" situations, as we strive to create a duplicable model in bringing back the small farm. Community-supported is the only way and volunteering is a great way to help. There are plenty of jobs for everyone; thank you for sharing with us!

Did you know?

When Columbus first arrived in the Americas, there were close to 300 varieties of corn being grown on the continent. Today, only 16 varieties of corn account for over 70% of the corn being grown in the United States. With the advent of genetically engineered corn, we are in danger of losing all genetic diversity, leaving the nations corn crop open to widespread destruction by a single fungus or disease.
